Bobby Jain & The World's First Bitcoin Debit Option

By Robin Setser

It's clear that Bitcoin has a tremendous amount of popularity behind it but does this necessarily speak true to its user base? It's worth keeping in mind that there are various ways in which digital money can be distributed from one transaction to the next. PayPal is one great example of this. However, it appears as though the age of digital money is going to be changed further, as an upcoming debit option will, more likely than not, garner the attention of various names in finance, Bobby Jain included.

The bitcoin wallet company known as Xapo looks to be at the forefront of this concept. Wired put forth an article that talked about how bitcoin customers will be able to utilize this unique type of currency, putting it forth in order to be used at a number of stores. Keep in mind that, as of now, this option will only work in areas that take MasterCard and Visa. While this might seem limiting on the surface, the mere idea of this option indicates a shift in the way that digital money is given and received.

In the future, any bitcoin user will have the option of linking the account that they have to a debit card option. From what I have seen, this idea presents both a greater ease of use as well as a cutback on the limits that have been in terms of eligible locations. Bitcoin distribution definitely has an audience and Xapo has the clear goal of making transactions with this type of currency as accessible as possible. As a side note, did you know that Xapo is backed by $20 million in VC funding?

If a bitcoin customer were to adopt this particular option, he or she will be allowed a single debit card with minimal restrictions in terms of where to use it. As Bobby Jain can tell you, the good news about this concept only gets better. The article said that the credit card number that is given would be able to check into Xapo for the purpose of seeing if there were enough funds in place to cover every transaction. This could allow for an even greater ease of use, which is a plus for customers, according to names such as Jain.

I have to believe that, in time, this option will be able to gain the greatest audience possible. Bitcoin users - just like anyone else- desire accessibility and it seems like this option will be one of the best moves that Xapo could make. Is it possible that this audience will be found at the onset, though? It's unlikely that this will be the case but, if the concept proves effective in practice, I have very few doubts that this will gain greater amounts of traction.
