Things To Do When Planning For A Team Building Adventure

By Patricia Parker

Managing a group of workers is not easy especially if they have differences among themselves. These differences affect the overall results of a project, and as the manager, you will be the one to blame. You can plan on a team building adventure to help solve their differences and improve how they relate to each other. Here are the things to outline when planning for one.

Knowing the needs of a business and workers is important as it will help you to know what target to achieve during the experience. As a manager, you already know some of the challenges faced by employees that affect their relations and productivity. Make a list of all these things and talk to some of the workers to know if there are any challenges you omitted.

Decide on which activities are best for this particular activity. With the goals of the event in mind, you can seek the opinions of different people on what can be done to help your workers. You can use the internet to learn from professionals, or you can even talk to your friends who are managers in other organizations. Consider the opinions of the employees too to know what they are comfortable with.

The destination you will choose is also important. For instance, if you have chosen hiking as the main activity of the day, you need to decide on the best place where you can do this. The surrounding areas should also be friendly and with beautiful views. This way the group members will not be bored during the trip. You can ask them for opinions.

The next thing will be to plan on a day and make a schedule. You can either choose to do this on a working day or on the weekend. On a working day, everyone is likely to be present as it will be similar to reporting to work. This is unlike planning something on a weekend where everyone has their own personal schedule. Consider the weather too.

Use of money without accounting for it can cost the business a lot of losses, and that is why a budget is required. Determine how much it is likely to cost you by listing all the requirements against their costs. These include transport, moderator fees, food, drinks and gate pass fees where applicable. The person in charge will be careful with his spending as he is limited by the budget.

You will also need a moderator for the event. If you plan to be the one coordinating things you will not have time to interact with your colleagues. The moderator has also handled many groups, so he is experienced in this work. He is likely to do it better than you. Talk to the management of the facility to know if they have professional moderators for hire.

A good business manager must take time to evaluate the event to know if the set goals were met. He should hence try to interact with the employees and ask them what they liked or disliked about the activity. This can also be done by use of questionnaires. The response he gets should help him to plan in order to make the future activity more fun and relevant.
