Looking For Vintage Harley Davidson Parts

By Ryan Johnson

If you own a Harley, you may at some point need to purchase spares after a breakdown or to make modifications to your bike. This can be a simple process with modern machines and they are available for most of the models on the road. If you own an older motorcycle you will need to locate vintage Harley Davidson Parts to keep your machine running well.

There are a couple of places for you to look when trying to find spares to fit to your vintage bike. Locating obscure parts may often be time consuming and often the item will be unavailable and cannot be found. The first thing to do is take a decent picture of the spare part you are hunting for and this will allow you to compare it to any replacements you may find.

Some of the internet sites can be a great place to find rare items to fit to your bike. A large number of online suppliers will have many thousands of factory made products for Harley Davidson motorcycles. Most web adverts will feature a very detailed photograph and a comprehensive description along with the cost of the item.

A Harley dealership is probably the best place to visit when you are searching for items. Most of these dealers will keep huge inventories of spares and some will have very old or rare spares which may not be listed. If that they do not have the bits that you require they will usually advise you where you can continue your search.

Scrap bike dealers are a great place to go on a hunt for vintage items. Many motorcycles will have been taken off the road for various reasons and they will be found piled up in the yards. Many of the firms will strip a bike and put and useful spares on the shelves ready to sell, but it is also worth taking along a basic tool kit, in case you need to remove any parts.

Harley Davidson owners clubs are a useful place to get spares that may be unavailable or even discontinued. A lot of club members will have collected for many years and will often have a stock of parts that they will sell or trade. You do not have to be a member of the club to buy but it can sometimes be beneficial to sign up and they will always be happy to help you if they can.

When you have located your spares and fitted them it is well worth keeping the old ones as you may be able to recycle them. These can then be reused or sold on to another biker who is looking for a hard to find item. When you replace things such as gas tanks and brakes, it is essential to have them inspected for safe operation before fitting them.

You should always try to fit factory spares to your bike when possible. A re manufactured item can be used but they can seriously affect the value of a bike and make it less saleable. You should also be aware that many owners clubs and show associations will not let you enter a bike into a show if it is not fitted with genuine Harley components.
