Ideas In Choosing Harley Saddlebags

By Shirley Nelson

Most likely than not you are reading this article because you own a Harley Davidson. In fact you may have owned your hog for a few years, or maybe just a few days, but in either case you want to add some accessories to it. One of these accessories that come into mind are harley saddlebags. In fact they can add more character and manliness to your machine or they can also add more utility or both.

Try to be honest with yourself and classify what kind of rider you really are. Are you one that rides only occasionally like on weekends or only when you feel like it or are you a real everyday hog rider that is pretty hardcore? If you belong to the former group you may need a saddlebag that does not offer much functionality as compared to the needs of the latter type of rider.

The next thing you need to do is to figure out what you really want the saddlebags for. You may want it just to complement your bike looks and make it cooler looking or you may need it for something more, like more utility in your day to day activities. In either case, your main reason will determine certain criteria sets that you will use.

If you are getting one for looks then most likely you will be faced with two general design decisions, studded or non studded. If the leatherwork or metal work on your hog already has studs then it will be good to go for the studded item. If your hog is plain then go for the plain one, or you can also choose a buckled design. Mind you that those buckles have no practical use whatsoever and are mainly mostly for looks.

As for functionality issues, if you do buy this accessory you should look at the capability of it to be locked and secured. This is because if it is used a lot then it needs to have locks so as to keep your items safe if it used to transport and store your items. This is because you do not want your items to be messed with or even stolen on one of your long rides.

How often you use your bike and proposed accessory will also determine what kind of mount you should use. The higher the frequency of your use will best be paired with either a hard mount or a quick disconnect system, as these two are the most reliable for longer term use. It will take a bit more mechanical skill to install if you plan to install it yourself.

Consider the overall price too. Remember that a decent one will set you back around two hundred to three hundred dollars. Anything much more than this can be considered a luxury. Plenty of online stores do offer price discounts and holiday offers.

In the end the final decision will definitely be yours, after of course weighing all your options and gauging needs versus wants. In any case make sure your purchase adds value to your hog in the long run to make sure it is a good purchase or not.
