Putting Public Service Before Politics

By Donald Davis

Politics is a staple in every place and setting. However, it has very different delineations in each. Nonetheless, it can all be boiled down to a common purpose. All are engaged in keeping peace and order, and that is achieved through giving and granting what their constituents need, in the purest sense of the term. For always, it should be public service before politics.

Thats a necessary mantra to keep in mind. After all, its easy to be misled on what the meat of politics really is. Recently, it has come to be a jump start to power. Politicians run for office to enrich and empower themselves. It goes without saying, but the nub of the matter is always on service. One joins the ranks so as to make the lives of their fellowman or countryman smooth sailing.

As you can imagine, a lot of things are left to be desired in any kind of society. The worst part is that most of them are held up in supplication to government bodies, reasoning that theyre the only ones that are practically equipped to do just about anything. When those in power are basically incompetent, then that puts everything in a standstill. Everything logjams, just because no one wants to shift their principles and priorities a jot.

You also have the Military. This one is responsible for maintaining a balance of power in the international arena that will best leverage a states interests. Most directly and particularly, its responsible for ensuring national security which, needless to say, is no mean feat. It branches out to concerns like technological capacity and geopolitical factors, and so on and so forth.

The dispensers of service are also pretty much an extensive party. It may be in the form of a doctor who cures the sick with considerably reduced fees or a lawyer who represents a client pro bono. It may be a maintenance person who repairs community utility lines. Or maybe its in the form of a technology thats innovated by developers and technicians, you get the drift.

Among the credos of public service is that its constantly available to all. And that means it in the strongest sense of the phrase. Regardless of physical ability, level of income, mental competency, and just about any drawback and hindrance you can think of. Anyone can imagine why a trusty figurehead with a respectable platform should be put atop this.

Furthermore, you have emergency services. Youve heard of the quintessential 911. Generally, this brings to mind able bodied and sound of mind paramedics that know how to bring about a turnaround in hopeless situations. This is a very nifty service, indeed. One would be hard put to find any kind of service thats slated to respond 24 7, since incidents are bound to choose no time and place.

And then you have concerns that are not altogether apparently pressing, but nonetheless hold disastrous clout on the future state of affairs. Such is the case with the endeavour of environmental protection. And then theres the more urgent and perpetually needed operations, like healthcare. This is perhaps among the most constantly demanded ones. As it is, they dont choose based on any fair and just variable, and its particularly hard on those that cant afford it.

Prioritization is key. Sometimes, its just so easy to get around things, or else sweep them under the rug. That must never be the case. Along the same tangent, one must not skip through other developments without taking care of basic ones first. Political issues are always divisive and controversial, and they do have to be solved sooner or later. Nonetheless, that shouldnt be at the expense of basic human rights.
