An Introductory Glance At Louve Guided Tours

By Pierre Fontaine

Paris' Le Louvre is among the world class museums showcasing the most valuable art collections of different periods by different groups of people.

Choosing guided tours will best suit those who are not so into art but looking to have a better understanding about it. Guides will help you throughout your visit at the Louvre.

English tour guides in Le Louvre are available 3 to 5 times daily depending on the time of the year. This takes about 90 minutes that will allow you to see the museum's highlight artworks.

Louvre tours normally start on American architect Im Pei's glass pyramid which is seated at the middle of the museum. Fees are charged on adults, free among kids aged under 13, and a discount is available for those 13 to 18 years of age.

Guided tours of the Louvre are restricted to 30 people and places are allotted on a first come first serve basis, so it's recommended to arrive the glass pyramid 30 minutes before the tour commences in order to register your names.

Aside from human tour guides, Louvre also offers audio guides in six different languages. It orients you to art collections like a normal human guide does. They are also 90-minute tours and audios can be rented on the front desk of Louvre.

Louvre welcomes visitors daily from 9 AM to 6 PM with the exception of Tuesdays and special holidays. Ticket counters close 45 minutes before closing time while guards start going around to clear the buildings half an hour before closing. Some parts of the Louvre are open to public as late as 9.45 in the evening on Mondays.

With a standard ticket, you can see permanent exhibits of the Louvre. You will also be allowed to get in and out of the museum throughout the day, allowing you to go out for fresh air or for lunch. As for temporary exhibits, you will need to pay extra fees to get to see it.

Every first Sunday each month, Louvre offers free entrance for all. But if you look to visit several museums in Paris, why not opt for a Paris museum pass that allows you to get into over 70 museums of the city.
