Sing Along To Your Favorites With A Neil Diamond Tribute Band

By Rhea Solomon

He is a living legend who, now in his seventies, is still rocking. He has written hits that made the careers of other artists. When his songs are playing, it's inevitable that everyone will sing along, even if they won't admit to liking his music. With a Neil Diamond tribute band, you too can enjoy the man's talent.

Unlike bands who play original music, a tribute band plays the music of one artist or music group. The lesser known of these bands often play at small venues and private functions, for instance at birthday parties. However, the more experienced and talented groups can draw huge audiences to shows that are staged very professionally in large concert venues and theaters.

Neil Diamond is a native of New York's borough of Brooklyn. He was a fencing champion in high school and wanted to work in the medical field one day. However, fate had other plans and his career path changed when he was at university and got the opportunity to write songs for a weekly salary.

In the 1960s, Diamond began performing on stage. He also wrote songs that became huge hits for other artists, including The Monkees. Among these songs was 'I'm A Believer', which became the top hit of 1967.

The Seventies became one of the most important decades in the singer's career. Hits like 'Sweet Caroline', 'Song Sung Blue' and 'Cracklin' Rosie' brought him international fame as a musician and his album 'Hot August Night' became one of the top live albums ever produced. In the mid-Seventies he composed the soundtrack for the film 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull', winning the Golden Globe as well as the Grammy for his efforts.

As the Eighties began, the singer and songwriter tried his hand at another aspect of the movie business. He starred in the film 'The Jazz Singer' and was the first lead actor to receive a Razzie, the awards for the worst of the movies. However, he was also nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance and the soundtrack produced some of his best songs. A couple of years later another of his songs once again hit the spotlight when UB40's rendition of 'Red Red Wine' topped the charts all around the world.

By the 1990s, Diamond's fan base consisted largely of older people. Younger music lovers thought of him as quaint and regarded his songs as a little kitsch. This changed with the release of '12 Songs' in 2005. Producer Rick Rubin, who also revamped Johnny Cash's sound, stripped the music of all unnecessary frills, highlighting how extraordinary the songs were.

If you cannot see a live performance by the legend himself, the next best thing is a show by a good Neil Diamond tribute band. There are several of these bands who perform regularly in different locations in the United States. To find one in your area, you only need to look online or check the local listings. Attending a concert will provide you with an evening of great entertainment and you will probably find yourself singing 'Sweet Caroline' as you're driving home afterwards.
