Italian Olive Oil: How To Differentiate

By Robert Sutter

When it comes to Italian olive oil, the idea of variety is not going to be too far behind. It's not hard to see why, since there are so many different products which stand to be purchased. Some of them may prove to be better than others but ultimately it is up to you to determine which of these will prove to be the best in the long term. You want to be able to assess the differences between these particular items and there is quite a bit to talk about.

If you are going to purchase Italian olive oil, I am sure that your eye will be drawn more so to extra virgin. The Wall Street Journal posted an article about the types of oil that seem to be "purer" by comparison to others, which is something that is more than worth taking into account. If you want to know how extra virgin oil is formed, it is done by first pressing the olive. Due to its low acidity, authorities the likes of Bellucci Premium can tell you that this has a more delicate flavor in comparison to others.

Extra virgin oil, for those not in the know, is more delicate in terms of flavor, meaning that certain products work the best. For example, this is perhaps the best that can be put to use for the sake of dressing salads. If you want to prepare more demanding food in terms of taste, though, it is in your best interest to find oil that can work for, amongst other foods, meat and pasta. These are just a couple of points to consider when it comes to oil in general.

As strong as these points are, you never want to forget that the fresher your product is, the better. You may not be able to find the harvest date on every bottle that you come across but more likely than not you will stumble upon the expiration date, so make sure that this is kept in mind. For the best results, you want to make sure that you are able to store your authentic product in a cooler, darker place. This will keep sunlight away and, as a result, protect the natural antioxidant content tied to the oil.

I think that this type of information will be able to help the most when it comes to assessing the differences between Italian olive oil products. You want to be able to bring them to use and I think that they can prove useful for a variety of reasons. However, the specific type that you are going to want to attain will depend on what your goals are. No matter what the case may be, it's clear that the expiration date should be noted while taking care of it.
