Why Voip Business Telephone Systems Are Becoming More Popular

By Earlene McGee

Technology keeps developing at a pace very difficult to keep up with. The internet, specifically, has revolutionised the way in which people communicate, shop and market their products and services. With this revolutionary new tools have come new challenges, however. Competition is incredibly ferocious and only companies with superior communication abilities can hope to stay ahead of the competition. Vancouver BC businesses, for example, have learned that they need state of the art business telephone systems in order to compete globally.

A very large number of enterprises still rely on traditional PABX installations. It is true that these installations have evolved and that they offer many useful features. Users can conduct conversations with more than one caller, callers can leave messages and conference calls are now commonplace. Most modern installations can even present callers with a menu of options, helping them to get hold of the most appropriate person or department within the organisation.

Traditional installations have some serious drawbacks, however. It is not portable, for one thing. Even the most sophisticated features are of no help if the appropriate employee is not at his desk. This means that it is frequently necessary to take messages. Not only are messages sometimes not relayed, but callers may become frustrated if they struggle to communicate. This can quickly become detrimental to the business.

It is also true that PABX installations are very expensive, especially for large organizations that need separate installations at every branch and site. Maintenance is also costly and time consuming. Downtime occurs when installations break down or when routine maintenance is conducted. This can disrupt the business and result in unhappy customers. Costs are further raised because so many calls have to be made to react to messages that were left because the employee was not at his desk at the time of the call.

VoIP service providers say that their solutions overcome all the drawbacks of PABX and that they offer features previously undreamed of. VoIP uses the internet as a communications platform and can therefore be used anywhere as long as there is access to the internet. The platform is hosted by the service provider, which means that the client always has access to the latest upgrades and features. Only one installation is required, regardless of how many remote sites the client have.

VoIP also offer significant savings. Many users have reported that they have saved up to fifty per cent of their previous communication bills. The cost of maintenance is also drastically reduced and even more money is saved by the fact that there is no need for an operator at every site or branch. Users are delighted by the fact that they can use a wide variety of devices to access the communication network.

Savings are great but VoIP installations offer much more. Imagine being able to communicate from any geographical location, the ability to transfer calls to remote locations and a wide variety of features specially designed to make life easier and to improve productivity. Ultimately, VoIP not only saves money bit it offers clients the true freedom of being able to communicate whenever, wherever and from whatever compatible device.

The ability to communicate reliably and from anywhere is an important advantage. VoIP offers this possibility. In addition, it allows users to be flexible regarding the devices they employ and it frees them to work from just about any location.
