By Brian Scott

The wonderful thing about the great state of Florida is that it is a prime getaway destination for many people wanting to go on vacation. From college kids making the most of their spring break to retired senior citizens seeking respite from winter temperatures, there is so much to love about the Sunshine State of America. Should you plan a visit here in the immediate future, here are some fabulous suggestions for your travel itinerary.

Located right at the southernmost end of the outlying islands, Amelia Island is a quiet little isle where you can relax on holiday. Just a few miles away from the city of Big Sky, this island is home to a quaint village where fishing for shrimp is their main livelihood. Take a stroll through their streets and you will see delightful stops such as seafood restaurants and charming inns.

Next, take a trip back in time by visiting a building that harks back to America during the 1600s. Marvel at the wonder of Castillo de San Marcos and get a newfound appreciation for American history and architecture. This attraction offers guided tours throughout the whole fortress and you will have the opportunity to take in the oceanic sights.

Because Florida has bragging rights to having the longest coastline in the country, this means that they have several beaches that beckon to all holiday goers. And the crown jewel of the Floridan coasts has to be Fort Lauderdale Beach. Defined by a very long stretch of fine golden sands and turquoise blue waters, you cannot go wrong with a summer break here.

Outside of sun drenched shores, Florida is also the place where lots of rocket ships and artificial satellites are launched into space. A visit to the Kennedy Space Center will allow you to indulge in your inner space geek since this site is affiliated with NASA. But while you may not be able to do space travel, you can enjoy their tourist facilities such as movie theaters and museums.

You might as well cross the Everglades off your bucket list when taking a vacation within the Sunshine State. This place is popularly known to the local population as a slow flowing river that looks like marshland at first glance. This unique patch of Floridan wilderness is a natural sanctuary for many animals native to Florida, both predator and prey alike.

Of course, you simply cannot miss out on an epic drive on the marvelous Overseas Highway. Literally living up to its name, this incredible road structure is built over the Gulf of Mexico and connects the Floridan mainland to the nearby offshore islands. Many vehicles pass through this infrastructure and is often featured in many films and TV shows set in this fabulous region.

And obviously, no holiday trip to Florida will be complete unless you take a mandatory visit to the place where childhood dreams are made of. Walt Disney World in Orlando is the flagship of all the global Disneyland theme parks. With eyes bright and smiles wide, you are sure to have a fantastic time with immersing yourself in iconic characters and fun amusement rides.

As this guide clearly shows, you are totally spoiled for choice when holidaying in Florida. Be open to other options, but the ones featured above should be at the top of your personal travel itinerary. Do not be afraid to explore new places during your fabulous vacation time.
