In this modern day and age there are suffering people everywhere. However, nowhere else than the African continent has so many millions of people that suffer from constant hunger, no medical treatment facilities, exposure to the elements and indifference from their own governments. Kids, specifically, suffer terribly. They are not only innocent, but they are the victims of greed, drought, floods and neglect. It is truly the duty of everyone to donate to poor children in Africa.
Very few people can claim that they are not aware of the misery suffered by African kids every day. Images of suffering, hungry, ill and abused kids are printed and broadcast on almost a daily basis. Sadly, so many people view such images and stories of little more than passing interest. It is happening very far away and it has nothing to do with them. At least, this is what they tell themselves.
Luckily, there are those that realize that they have a responsibility towards the less fortunate. Members of the British Royal family and many other celebrities have done much to attract attention to the desperate need of this continent. Their efforts have made a difference but they cannot bring about the massive change that is necessary to create lasting hope for the people of this continent.
Aid organizations and many wealthy countries do much to help African kids but a few huge efforts simply cannot make a lasting change. What is necessary is the active involvement of millions of smaller donors. One person may not be able to achieve spectacular results, but millions of people can, together, indeed make a massive difference. The truth is that the vast majority of people really can afford to help, even in a small way.
One of the easiest ways in which to help is to donate money on a regular basis. Great care should be taken, however, to make sure that such donations are made to reputable organizations that will indeed use the money to help those that truly need it. It is a sad and lamentable fact that there are some organizations that claim to help those in need but are unable to produce proof of exactly what it is that they achieved.
Another excellent way in which to make a real difference is to become involved on a personal level. There are several organizations that run educational programs, health facilities and projects that aim to provide water, sanitation and housing to those poorest of the poor. Young people can volunteer to offer their skills and their labour to make a real and visible change.
Even people focusing on creating awareness of the plight of African kids can help. It is not necessary to become a zealot in order to gently and continuously remind friends and family that there are millions of people in dire straits and that they have an obligation to do something about it. Many people do their bit by collecting clothes and food which is then handed to reputable organizations for distribution.
The African continent is not a hopeless case. Ongoing efforts and a firm determination to achieve permanent change can turn this majestic continent into a powerhouse of wealth and opportunity. In the modern global community everyone is a citizen of the world and everyone else is a neighbour.
