Perth Accommodation Options In & Around City Centre

By Jackson Prior

Perth, Western Australia, is a capital city unlike any other. It has a vast urban sprawl, with a relatively small population, which gives it a unique laid-back ambience. Residents are very relaxed and their life has a comfortable pace about it. Visitors are quickly seduced into its groove. Perth surrounds the stunning Kings Park reserve on the Swan River, and has a huge range of Perth accommodation available including backpackers, serviced apartments and 5 star hotels. It is also well worth looking for good deals and checking reviews before booking.

The CBD itself is tiny, with only a few streets of skyscrapers right on the banks of the Swan River. Transport around the CBD is fantastically easy, with free CAT buses running every couple of minutes, and most places within the city are walking distance. Accommodation in Perth is dotted all through the city area, making for convenient access to shopping and city attractions.

Just outside the main buzz of the city, there are a number of serviced apartments that are fully contained, and also have great views of the river. Free parking is offered at most serviced apartments, so it is worth considering a hire car, particularly for travel outside of the CBD area. Taxicab services tend to be pricey, and public transport can be very slow.

Perth has several internationally renowned 5 star hotels in the CBD district, which are all fantastically overpriced, and a little run down. Most of these top-end hotels are used to host functions such as weddings and school proms, and may be worth staying at if a great Internet rate can be found. There are also many very good 4 and 4.5 star hotels that have much newer facilities, and feature great service on a par with the 5 star hotels.

For travelers on a tighter budget, there are plenty of hotels with a 3 star rating in the Perth area that offer simple and basic accommodation with the same ease of access. There are generally no frilly extras, but the proximity to city sites is well worth it.

There are also dozens of well-located backpackers in Perth that accept YHA cards, and are perfect for students and budget travellers alike. Some are very well established, and offer fantastic support, such as job search, budget tours and general advice on the area, which is all second-language speaker friendly. There are also many backpacker places in nearby Northbridge, which is within walking distance of Perth city.

As mentioned before, it is always a great idea to look on the web for last minute deals and discounts. This is especially true for places to stay in Perth. It can get quite expensive if direct bookings are made.

With such a wide range of Perth accommodation to choose from in just the small CBD area, it is no wonder that tourists find Perth such a convenient and accessible city to visit. Be aware that if accommodation is 15 to 20 minutes away from the city center, it may be very difficult to get around without hiring a car, or spending a fair amount of money on taxicab fares.
