By Sue Govali

A "released" diaphragm, or a relaxed diaphragm as you will learn here, is what is likely to make all the difference in you having a centered, effortless singing performance that will make you happy and will rock the audience at the same time. Even those new singers endowed with obvious huge lung capacity along with a naturally relaxed diaphragm, freeze up in the last moment although they prepared early. There's nothing wrong with the diaphragm itself so don't be concerned then again learning ways to use the power of the diaphragm properly shall be discussed in the following paragraphs.

Getting through an entire song for any singer is certainly a chore especially if they are using improper breathing techniques and can be scary for those that are not aware of this. Despite the presence of good breathing technique, singers will discover that the demands of a song will leave their diaphragm feeling pretty constricted and rather uncomfortable. Vocal Training students who have been singing and studying for some years and being able to open up with their voices nevertheless are unable to access that last 15% missing from their performance and they've got no clue regarding how to tap into it.

Can anybody really think of the logical reason for why a singer can't obtain and master this "so- called " invisible power? My old training singing strategies made it harder for me in past times because I used to be explaining things to my students in a technical style as opposed to working on helping them access the core feeling found within their own body. Singing, at its very root depends upon emotions and feeling free to convey them to uncover your vulnerability with virtually no hindrances mentally or physically, which everybody knows is no small feat.

Learn how to emote using the diaphragm is the supreme goal of a singer and to be able to really have the ability to connect with passion, we have to consciously work on exercising the diaphragm. Understanding how to sing, as everyone knows, is really a gradual process relatively much like unwrapping the layers of an onion (which should be much less smelly you should hope), and I can talk until eventually I'm blue in the face but things would not change until the singer gets to truly feel and experience this on their own. Practice going right to that feeling until finally it becomes part of their emotion memory after which it is simply what they do effortlessly. That is why teaching singing is actually a conundrum since we are not only just training to develop our bodies but in addition our minds, spirits and hearts when we sing. Our goal, through our training is to develop you into the complete package as a singer.

Learning how to connect with her or his diaphragm and experiencing it be released out loud, for any singer is probably the most awesome things to experience. As your notes grow to be purer, you will notice a freedom in your voice and more weight behind the sound as you are better able to hear the emotion in every song you hear which you will "feel" much more. When it feels really good and it seems no one can pull themselves away from your singing, you just know you're having a great performance. Having this much control over the sound as a singer, contributes to it becoming a more free sound.

Learning how to connect with and releasing the diaphragm is a process that can take some singers many years to achieve but so worth the effort. Going through this process will surely bring up older memories and grievances, resulting in a battle in the mind and body that will effect your singing. I recently held a workshop in my local neighborhood, when a very lovely lady from the group, after being shown the best way to release her diaphragm, announced "Oh, that feels so great!" She went on further to mention, "I maneuver around all day long feeling tensed up and never having the ability to let go of all that pressure, until now!" Moments like these are which remind me how very important correct breathing and the diaphragm really is for a singer and how working on it can change not only your voice but also the quality of your life.
