By Dave Pathison

When you find yourself alone after your spouse has moved out or you have just heard "I would like a divorce" or "My love for has changed I am not in love with you", you may not feel like you can stop divorce from happening to you. This is especially true if you never saw it coming. In reality any marriage can be repaired provided both people are willing to work on saving it, you may be ,unfortunately, the only person now who is willing to invest in doing so right now.

Significant decisions like divorce are major milestones in your life and not to be accepted easily. Your feelings are powerful and can drive both of towards divorce, you must prevent this rush of emotions from pushing you in this direction.

Be Calm When You Speak

If every time you try to talk things out it turns into a yelling match, you are only going further in the wrong direction. If you are going to try to resolve things and stop divorce from being the final outcome, you are going to have to learn to have a meaningful conversation without letting your emotions take over.

You are probably feeling anger, hurt, depression, confusion, and a whole host of other emotions. But unless you can push those feelings aside, you may never find out what has led your spouse to take the steps she is taking. If she has agreed to talk with you and you genuinely want to deal with the issues and stop divorce from being the outcome, then keep these points in mind:

* Don't yell. It does not matter what you are thinking or feeling, talking down to them is not going to help you get them to stop divorce proceeding.

* Proper communication is the only answer to solving your marriage problems. Should they be the ones who made the decision to move out, there must have been a valid explanation why. Such decisions as well as filing for divorce are usually not made lightly. Finding out why is essential. The best way to do this is have calm meaningful conversions without name calling or raised voices.

* Stopping the divorce from happening after your partner has begun the process can be hard. The only way to do this is to persuade them to stop the proceedings that they have started. Blaming them for the issues you are having isn't going to persuade them that things are better than they imagined and cause them to stop the divorce proceedings. Truthfully examine the difficulties facing your marriage convey to your partner that you are aware of these difficulties. Develop alternatives that will create changes for the better. There must be a sincere effort to strengthen your marriage.

* Plan to spend more time with your spouse and follow through with that plan. Find things that both of you will enjoy together and plan for those activities do not interrupt their daily routine.

To stop divorce from occurring you must be patient while you correct the problems you are having, you will not regret it. You may end up with a much better relationship as a result. Should you have difficulties correcting your problem you might consider marriage counseling to focus on creating a stronger marriage and stop divorce in the future.

  1. Start with a great mediator who is also a lawyer. If you're not at war already, heading to a sharky lawyer out of fear will certainly start one.
