Holiday Work Visa

Not many people know that there are actually special visas that some foreigners can take advantage of. These permit them to find employment as tourists in the country. Those specifically eligible to apply for it are 18-30 year old citizens of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Germany, U.K., Denmark, Hong Kong and Taiwan. For applicants to get approved, they are required to specify vacation plans. Finding employment should only be a secondary concern.

Payment and Work Shifts

Naturally, working in Japan is a good idea if you want to earn more for your holiday activities. You can use the extra cash for shopping or night outs. Hokkaido workers typically receive more because the area is a prime spot.

Most job shifts last for eight hours and may extend for five to six days every week. There are times when resorts can be fully packed. In these instances, you may have to work more hours and over the weekend.

You can use your special holiday work visa in the summer and winter which are the most popular seasons for tourists. You can choose between the two seasons depending on your personal preference. It is crucial that you identify what you want because while you work in Japan, there will be plenty of time to enjoy the resort you work in. This is permitted by employers after work shifts. After you clock out, you can take your gear and just have some fun time.

Accommodation and Meals

In Japan, board and lodging can be a bit costly. In some areas, you will have to prepare around 100,000 yen for accommodations alone. You can however, reduce this figure if you opt to stay in employer sponsored lodgings. There are many winter resorts in Nagano and Niigata that offer foreign workers free dorm type lodging plus free meals. For summer resorts, those in Okinawa and Honshu give special subsidized dorm prices for their workers.

Language Requirements

Previously, a one year learning experience and basic conversational skills were required. Fortunately, there are now some employers that accept workers who are not able to speak Japanese at all. Of course, you should still take some pains learning the basics of the tongue. It goes without saying that those who can communicate in Japanese are given higher priority for good positions.

Now that you know you can work in Japan while on a holiday, you should start applying. It's likely that you may not need the additional money at all. After all, you can't get approved for a visa without proof that you have enough travel money. Holiday work should really be more geared towards achieving better cultural awareness.
