Jimi Hendrix And His Guitar Effects Pedals Made Him Make Truly Unique Tunes

By Craig Czartoryska

Before looking at Jimi Hendrix and His Guitar Effects Pedals, it is important to understand just why he has been called a poet, genius and guitar God. First of all, Hendrix played the guitar in a manner that no other guitarist had done and he played music that neither his contemporaries nor those who followed him could copy or match. He therefore continues to remain the most influential guitarists of his generation.

Hendrix was a self taught guitarist whose main musical influences were B. B. King and the well known guitarist, Robert Johnson. On tour, Hendrix would never be seen playing without his trusted Marshall amplifiers and his trademark Fender Stratocaster which he exploited to the limits. He was also a pioneer in so far as making use of special guitar effects went. His music was based on extensive use of the Vox wah.

If you want to check out Jimi Hendrix and His Guitar Effects Pedals, you must take some time to study his use of the fuzzbox. This was a device that could synthesize the second note and make it sound one octave above the note that was being finger played. In his classic hit songs like Fire and Purple Haze, Hendrix used the fuzzbox to good effect.

The Univox Uni Vibe also featured in a lot of music played by Jimi. This device was used to simulate sounds and was exploited well by him. He also used the Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face and it figured on his first solo album. With the Fuzz Face, Hendrix created sounds that were hugely overdriven and he also made each note sound raw and pretty much out of control.

Hendrix also used (on occasion) the Octavia ahead of the Fuzz Face and this helped him to produce higher octaves that would be mixed in and which produced sounds that were more aggressive. He also made ample us of the Wah pedal and this was used on his first record album called Axis Bold as Love.

Jimi continues to be considered as the god of guitar and his performances on stage were truly electrifying and it drove his fans wild. He has performed at Monterey Pop Festival, Woodstock and at the Isle of Wight Festival. In all these places he made use of his guitar effects to create songs and music that lives on till today.

It is not surprising that he won plenty of rock music awards both in his lifetime and also posthumously.
